The Big Event That Wasn't

Well, okay, it was never going to be that big of an event. A nearby mall was having a fashion show hosted by Tim Gunn, who is on one of Mary's favorite TV shows, Project Runway. Brad and I got this idea that it would be fun to take Mary as a surprise. All she knew was that we were taking her somewhere and it was a surprise. Once we got there and got in line in the cosmetics department, Brad at first told her it was the opening day to see Santa Claus, which she believed for a heartsickeningly disappointing split-second. But then she figured out why we were really there from hearing the people around us talking. And she felt really bad when she told us that she wasn't interested in seeing Tim Gunnn and didn't feel it was worth waiting an hour for. (Though she later told us that if Heidi Klum or Tyra Banks is ever in town, she's going!) So ... we got out of line and found we were all dressed up and had nowhere to go. So we wandered around the mall and Brad got to fulfill his promise by taking her to see Santa. Actually, Santa came to her. We were walking the mall and it must have been a slow day for Santa, as he got up from his Santa chair and walked over to Mary and gladly posed for a picture. (Mary also said she was happy she had the protection of her parents as he was kind of a creepy Santa!) Then we stumbled upon an Asian fusion restaurant and had a delicious . . . and fun . . . dinner. All in all, it wasn't the evening any of us had expected but we had such a good time and so many laughs.
