It's been a busy 24 hours. Last night, Mary's volleyball team played a regular season match against the other team atop the league standings. It was an intense five-game match, but Mary's team lost the last game 12-15. Darn! It was well-played, played with a ton of heart, and a big thrill for the fans of both teams. She has two more league matches next week, then it's onto the post-season. After last night's match, we three got in the car and drove to New York. Mayya, the friend of Mary's who is here from Shorewood looking at colleges, was already in New York visiting their other Shorewood friend Franny, who is a freshman at Barnard. So we dropped Mary off at Barnard at about 10:00 last night and she stayed in the dorm with the girls. Mayya was flying home to Milwaukee this morning and Franny had to work, so we decided that rather than have Mary get on an early morning train home, we'd go back (crazy, I know) and spend the morning with her. So that's what we did. It was our first (and second!) time to drive into Manhattan, and we discovered that from our house it is easy as pie! So that was a huge learning. And we enjoyed a morning in the city with Mary. There aren't tours offered of Barnard or Columbia on weekends, so we did a self-guided tour of each and she liked what she saw of both schools quite a bit.

Pretty cool to have NYC that close.
