This little video shows Peter taking a trip down memory lane. At this mall, we found a store that sold a kind of Japanese soda that he used to get when we lived in Japan. He was so excited, but then he couldn't remember how to open it. As you can see from the video, eventually it all came back to him.

Loose Ends
Peter had some loose ends to tie up in DC before he leaves for Poland later this month, so he and I drove down yesterday and came home today. Yesterday he got everything on his list done, so . . . mission accomplished! I of course brought along my camera. Here are some highlights from our whirlwind day yesterday.
We pulled out of our driveway at precisely 3:09 a.m. Yes, early. This is because we took John to LaGuardia for his 6:40 a.m. flight to Milwaukee. (John went there for a few days to visit friends.) With this kind of an early start, we got to DC in time for a late breakfast. But we held off and instead made it an early lunch at one of Peter's favorites, Z Burger. It was great! Kind of like In N Out, only with about 50 flavors of milkshakes. (!) If he hadn't already told me he was a regular, I would have figured it out as the guy who took our order introduced himself and shook my hand when we ordered (and again on our way out). With about 49 more flavors of shakes to try, I will definitely be back.
My motto for going to DC is "do something new each time." We didn't have time for museums or anything like that on this quick trip, but . . . good son that he is . . . Peter suggested we stop by Politics & Prose, a local bookshop. There was only one problem, which was that we didn't have enough time to spend in this fantastic bookshop. It had an amazing selection and I got lots of inspiration for my reading list.
Here he is, in front of the building of his first apartment!
Peter is a really good sport. What kind of mother takes pictures of her son while they're waiting for a bus? She must be pretty annoying.
I made the mistake of saying "what a pretty Christmas tree" and he turned the camera on me while we walked through a shopping mall.
