Mary's at Model United Nations
Mary left today for Boston for a Model United Nations conference. She went to this same conference last year with the Shorewood High School team, and since her new school doesn't do Model UN, this year she applied as an individual. Her role is representative of the International Commission of Jurists (an NGO I'd never heard of before; here's their website if you're interested and also unaware like me). She's staying with the Shorewood team so of course that will make it even more fun for her. Getting there was a little worrisome, as I ended up picking up Mary from school a full hour earlier than planned due to a freak snowstorm we got this morning. The snow came down fast and hard and I wasn't sure we'd even get to the train station in New Haven on time. But the roads on our route were smooth sailing, which was lucky as I'd heard stories of accidents all over the place. We even had time to sit down and have a bite to eat before her train. Mary is already there and at the hotel with the Shorewood kids. The conference starts tonight. Also, there are three graduates of Shorewood who used to do Model UN and who go to college in Boston (John's one of them) and I hear they're trying to have a dinner together tomorrow night with Mary and the rest of the kids. So . . . it should be a great weekend. Mary will be home on Sunday.
Snow notwithstanding, here's Mary at the station with plenty of time spare - phew. She was loaded down with luggage, homework, binders for the conference, a bag lunch, and a dozen Dottie's Donuts (a Woodbury treat) to share with the Shorewood kids.

So good to hear you are doing well. Emily and I missed you at Cascade this year. We did the whole salami; Chula Vista Resort. We decided that Mary was definitely more adventuresome than " Thankyou but I'll stay on the green trails" Caroline Devitt. We decided against Kaminski's Steak House , "Where Size Matters" because we also think that size matters and wonder how anyone could support that kind of wastefulness in these times...
ReplyDeletePresident's day is coming soon. Let us know if you need me to pick up Mary at the airport, etc,,
