Let the Composting Begin!

This weekend Brad and Mary have been making three identical composters. It's a lot of work, but it was made a lot easier thanks to the fact that the composters were designed by our ingenious friends the Louriches in Shorewood. (Thanks Mary and Paul!)  They are 90% finished. Here's how the project is going:

Last weekend Brad built the bases.  On Saturday, he and Mary drilled holes into the rain barrels (soon to be composters) that we brought here from Milwaukee last summer.

Then they installed rods through the middle of the barrels, which will allow the barrels to roll on the bases.

On Sunday, Mary stained all three bases.

Meanwhile, Brad suspended the barrels from a tree so he could spray paint the outsides green.

Here's the first one.  The hardware for the door still needs to be installed.  But they're almost done, and they look great!
