Some Time Spent in Another Garden

Madison Square Garden, that is.  Brad and I had a rare getaway in New York.  I got there yesterday in the early afternoon and had a few hours to walk and shop.  I found nothing to buy and did lots of walking, which I think was a good outcome.  In the evening we went to a concert.  We stayed over and came back to Connecticut on the train this morning.
Along my wanderings I came across one of the arty pianos that are scattered around the city this week. Here's a link about the project.

Now, about the concert.  We went to see James Taylor and Carole King.  If you don't already know that I don't get out much, you will be certain by the end of this post after I gush about our evening.  (Although I have to say that the New Yorkers who sat with us were as in awe as we were.)   In terms of these two performers, putting them together was a situation where the whole was more than the sum of its parts.  It was a perfect concert.  And . . . they started promptly, had no opening act, and performed for three hours!  This is me and Brad outside MSG before the concert, looking a bit windblown.

Okay, I couldn't resist a token concert photo.  You can't see anything, this just says "yep, we were there!"  James Taylor was great, of course, but the surprise of the night was Carole King.  She's 68 years old, and she rocked the stage in super high heels, dancing, singing, playing piano and guitar, and basically being the anchor of the concert.  I wish I could bottle her energy.  Everyone was talking about her!
