Weekend

We were happy to get an unplanned visit from John this weekend, as he had a few days off in a row.  Allie was especially happy to have someone to hang out with, as you can see.
John got to see the progress the painters are making on the house.  And in case you're wondering, no, we're not going for a bi-color house!  But it's fun to see how the green is going to look.  The painters haven't painted the white trim, so I think once they do the green will stand out even more.  You can't tell from the photo, but the current trim color is creme.
With Mary in Shorewood and not expecting John to be home, Brad and I had a long-planned weekend getaway.  So no sooner had John arrived than we headed out the door and told him to take good care of Allie.  We didn't go far - this is the inn we stayed at and it's only about thirty minutes from home.  It sits on a lake so we brought our bikes and went on a couple of rides around the lake.
This is a view of the lake from our room.  It's eight miles around.
When we got home we discovered that the swallowtail butterflies had arrived, and this one spent all yesterday morning enjoying our coneflowers.

Last night John made grilled Thai chicken for dinner, and it was delicious!

This is the look of a VERY tired dog who has been chasing the ball over and over and over.  She got quite a workout last night running up and down the stairs, with both John and Brad throwing the ball for her from our second floor deck while John grilled dinner.
