Philadelphia

We only had about 14 hours in Philadelphia, but we tried to make the most of it . . . . . .
We stayed in downtown Philadelphia, and had this view of city hall from our hotel room.  (City hall, by the way, turns out to be the second-tallest masonry structure in the world.  Click on this link for more fun facts about it.)  The view is actually better than I was able to photograph, as there were more interesting buildings on both sides (including the Masonic Temple, which is directly across the street from city hall).  But I digress . . . .
Our hotel was a block from the Reading Terminal Market, which is a fantastic public market that's been around for over 100 years and which sells all sorts of food.  We had dinner and breakfast there, and it was delicious.  One the menu for dinner:  Philadelphia Cheesesteak.  And breakfast included the local dish scrapple, which was fun to try . . . . . once.
We walked to Independence Square.  To Mary's right (not in picture) is the Liberty Bell.  In the background of this picture is Independence Hall.  By the time we got there everything was closed, so we didn't go inside.
Cobblestone street in Independence Square.  It's apparently also known as Pebblestone, and you can see why.
Independence Square, where we saw a lot of interesting historical sites.
Tomorrow:  my favorite thing from Philadelphia!
