Give me a weekend in New York, and I'll give you a week of posts! Today, it's Cooper Union!
I first heard of Cooper Union only a few years ago. A super small, super selective, super affordable (full scholarships for everyone!) university in Manhattan, to me it's been an enigma. (What is that place?) Until this weekend when . . . we were there! Brad and I decided to spend our Saturday at a full day symposium and it was held at, you guessed it, Cooper Union. The school only has three buildings. The one above is the original building. We were in a large auditorium in the basement where, shortly after the school's founding in 1859, Abraham Lincoln spoke.
Across the street is the other main campus building. (The third is a small dormitory for freshmen.) The school only offers degrees in architecture, engineering, and fine arts, and there are less than 1000 students. There are two former St. Maur students who are students here. Try as we might, we didn't manage to spot either one. But much more importantly, Cooper Union is no longer a mystery!
