High Five!

I'm so tired of all these plastic bags! Even though we're good about taking our reusable bags to the grocery store, we still end up with a collection of bags. So we find a way to reuse them (big ones to line bathroom trash cans; newspaper bags for dog walks), but in this house they need a better home than what you see above. (We don't have a spare cabinet in which to hide these unattractive containers.) So I decided I'd make something. It was easy to find a pattern on the internet, and while Allie and I awaited stormy weather this afternoon, I sewed.

And now we have two sleeves hanging on the inside of the basement door - one for each type of plastic bag - easy to get to but out of sight most of the time. They have a drawstring on the top, and elastic on the bottom. The plastic bags get inserted in the top, and when we need one we'll pull from the bottom. Here's the link to the pattern if you're inspired to make some too - it was super easy!

I had enough fabric to make an extra bag. I'm not sure what we'll do with it, but we'll figure something out. Oh, and the best part is that I found this fabric in the remnant bin. I love a bargain, so I'm thrilled to report that this yard of super cute fabric cost a grand total of ….. one dollar!
