Mach Speed

Now that I think of it, we came close to following in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark. And by close I mean that we traveled from St. Louis to the Oregon Coast - though the circumstances were a little different, and compared to their trip ours was at mach speed, and quite a bit more comfortable. We saw a lot of beautiful fog and mountains (though we saw more sunshine than fog), but the fog is hard to photograph. This was one of my best shots. This is at an elk viewing area in Reedsport.
Here we are in the little town of Florence. Geneva and Chuck were excellent guides. They drove us up and down the coast and showed us some pretty and interesting sites. Never having been to this part of Oregon before, it was great to see new places. Brad visited here two years ago so he was a good sport and saw some of the same places for the second time. But it's so pretty that you can't really see it enough.
Florence has a cute little downtown so we meandered a bit. While meandering we saw this hummingbird and I got a lucky photo of him.
We also enjoyed a small farmer's market, where I got bamboozled by a sneaky peach salesman. Long story, but the moral of the story is: buying peaches is never easy.
We visited another part of the coast in a town called Bandon. The coastline there is very photogenic.
Thanks to the magic of Instagram this photo is a bit bluer than in real life, so I can't take full credit.
Speaking of photogenic, these four aren't bad in that category!
Up and down the beach, it was just so pretty.
And it was great that we had so much sun when we were there. We had very little fog and only one morning of rain.
On our last night we went out for fish and chips at this floating restaurant on Winchester Bay.
We even got to see the sunset. The next day we headed to the airport in Portland. On the way we stopped briefly in Eugene and at a bookstore in downtown Portland. Then we took two overnight flights home, arriving home early in the morning. Overnight flights are crazy, but we survived and are thankful for a really good trip!

  1. I've always wanted to visit the Oregon coast but that will have to wait until we retire since we use most of our vacation skiing and rafting. Those are great pictures considering they were all taken with your iPhone (seriously)!
