Last month, Mary flew to DC to start her job and her new life there. Last week, Brad and I drove out most of the rest of her worldly belongings. It was a great trip. On the way we got to see some new places. For instance, West Virginia. We did a little touristing, including the above stop at the Greenbrier, aka the world's largest country club.
On our first night we had dinner with Peter (and Jessa and Mary) at a restaurant in Mary and Jessa's neighborhood. Peter lives just a couple of miles north of them. (Jessa lives a few blocks from Mary.)
With our van, we were able to offer Mary a little help in moving this bed that she bought. The girl she bought it from lived only a few blocks away, so it was easy to load everything into our van, drive it to Mary's new apartment, and while she was at work on Friday we put it together. It's a great bed with lots of storage.
On Friday afternoon we got to see Peter's new school. (He works for the same school, but they moved to a new building. Shockingly, I didn't take any photos of it.) Afterwards, we went out for a drink with Peter and Lauren at a German beer bar called Biergarten Haus.
Then we went up the street to dinner at a Belgium mussels place.
One of Peter and Jessa's good friends, Ana, was down from Pennsylvania and she came with us too.
The next morning Ana joined us for brunch. (And yes, if you're wondering, it's fair to say that most of our time was spent eating.)
On Saturday afternoon, I went to watch Peter and Jessa play in their soccer league. It was so much fun to watch! They played it right behind Target (see next photo).
Mary lives near a shopping area in Columbia Heights. On Saturday there was a farmer's market there too. Behind Mary and Brad is a whole lot of shopping: Target, Marshall's, Bed Bath & Beyond, Sports Authority, etc. Her apartment is about three blocks from here.
Saturday night found us eating again. (I'm feeling full just writing this post!) We started our drive home on Sunday, feeling like Mary was more settled and like we'd had a really nice visit! We got home by lunchtime on Monday.
