We have four pepper plants. Two are beautiful and bushy and quite lush and they have given us exactly zero peppers. This tiny plant (above) has given us a few peppers. Next to it is another plant that grew to about four feet tall (!!!) but it hasn't given us any more peppers than its short neighbor.
Meanwhile, the pumpkin, watermelon, and cantaloupe plants are snaking all through the garden and combined have a total production of: zero. The zucchini plants gave us a few squash early on, and now there are a couple on the vines again. But overall, extremely unimpressive.
And I think soon we'll get some larger tomatoes to ripen.
But overall, it's our worst garden harvest ever. (By the way, this flower is from the okra plant. Cool, isn't it? We only got one flower and it lasted for about a day.) My theory for the disappointing season is that the plants aren't getting enough sunlight. If we're here next season, I think we'll have to make some changes and build new beds in a sunnier spot. In the meantime, we'll keep waiting and hoping.
That's too bad. One year we planted a tomatillo plant, we got tons of flowers but never any fruit. Then I read that you have to plant 2 of them because you need two plants because they aren't self fertilizing plants! Could be the same for Okra??
