The following night we packed another picnic and walked up to the Gazebo in Webster Groves for our town's weekly concert series. We heard some excellent music and enjoyed a beautiful summer night.
Saturday found us in Soulard with John and Troy and the Bediks. While John and Troy brewed beer (which will be the subject of its own post later in the week), the rest of us enjoyed the day and the company.
We were glad to see Lloyd and Esther before they headed out of town. They left on Monday morning for a leisurely drive north through Wisconsin and Michigan and then over to Connecticut, where they'll stay until later in the month. After that they board the Queen Mary 2 and sail to England to begin a stay in Europe until the fall. We're looking forward to seeing them here again in October.
On Sunday morning our clan met up at the Southwest Diner for breakfast. It's a popular place and we always have to wait. I opted to wait in the school bus they've reconfigured into a waiting room. John, Troy, and Mary found some shade outside.
Our group had a big delicious breakfast before heading to our next destination of the day.
And our next destination was Civil Life, which is Troy's new employer. This past Monday she started a new job as the Assistant Brewer there. We are all very happy and excited for her! Civil Life is a microbrewery (with an on-site pub) known for making very popular and very delicious lower alcohol beers.
The next day her first day of work was announced in this Tweet!
There's more than beer to drink in St. Louis—there's coffee! No visit by Mary is complete without a stop at Sump Coffee. Mary got a nitro coffee drink, while I got a decaf mocktail. Both were as pretty as they were tasty.
We made our first visit to The Muny in two years (and Mary's first visit ever) to see 42nd Street. It was great!
To wrap up Mary's visit we stopped by Culver's for dinner. Because of course.
Mary returned to DC late on Tuesday night and she's been a busy beaver ever since. She's moving to a new place and the first thing she did was take a bunch of stuff off Peter's hands. (This is because Peter and Jessa moved out of their respective apartments last week and started their cross country trip this morning. As I write, they are on their way to Chicago where they're spending the weekend with friends before continuing West.) So on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, Mary slowly but surely got her stuff moved. As of last night this was how her new room looked. (She's living in a house this time, sharing with three other people. Her room is substantially larger than in her apartment, where her bedroom was so small that it fit only her bed and a clothes rack with almost no floor space to spare!)
And already this is how it looks. At this rate before long she'll be all moved in. But maybe not all that fast. Tonight she's at a wedding and on Monday she leaves for a weeklong vacation to Ecuador. After she returns from Ecuador she has a week before she has to return to work, but she's in good shape to be well settled in her new place to start off the school year—if anyone can do it, Mary can!
