Allie was already fond of Anne and Anne, but on this trip she grew to love them. Here she is with Anne B. at the Painted Desert.
We all took a lot of pictures on the trip, but I think the professional photographer among us out-snapped us all. In this picture, Allie did her best to be a good companion to Anne W. as she took some pictures in the Petrified Forest.
Since we all posted a lot on facebook along the way, I won't bore you with photos of the entire trip. I think this one picture is our most iconic memory of the entire trip. It was at the Continental Divide in New Mexico where, after a day encountering every single type of precipitation that Mother Nature has to offer, we approached the Continental Divide in deceptively pleasant weather. By the time we got there it had become overcast and as we posed for this picture we got pelted with hail and, just after this photo was snapped, we heard thunder snow and raced to the car with blazing speed. (All of us, that is, except for the bravest of us, Anne W.) It's something I'll never forget, mostly for how hard we were all laughing.
Once we arrived in Long Beach, it was already time for . . . . . this.
As for Allie, once our belongings were in the house, she was ready for . . . . . this.
The Annes' time in Long Beach was too short but we were glad to have a bit of time to hang out after we arrived and before they had to go home. It was fun to get to know the area with these two while Brad was out of town. I'll always be thankful for the fact that they went on this journey with me, and that our bonds of friendship grew stronger along the way.
Now that we're getting settled, Allie is getting to know her neighborhood. She seems to like our walks near the beach.
And she also seems interested in all the new smells.
It's hard to be certain of what a dog thinks, and while I'm sure there's something inside her head that realizes she isn't in St. Louis anymore, I think she seems pretty interested and content with her new life here. Once again, Allie is proving that it's possible to teach an old dog new tricks. (Just please don't tell her that I called her an old dog.)
And in case you're wondering what happened to Brad, here we are last Saturday!
