Flashback Friday

On December 7, 2002—which makes it close to exactly fifteen years ago today—we lived in Warsaw and in this picture our kids said goodbye to their Spanish tutor Patricia. We were about to move to Japan and this was their last lesson with her. Also in the picture is Peter's best friend from across the street, Cory, who was also in their little Spanish group (and who, since he won an Emmy last year, I will probably forever refer to as Emmy Award winning director Corbett Jones!). We formed the tutoring group because the school didn't offer Spanish, and we and Cory's parents wanted them to keep up with their Spanish given that high school was fast approaching and chances were good that the boys wouldn't be in Warsaw for high school. (A prophecy that was fulfilled.) John and Mary, who had never studied Spanish before, gamely joined the group and learned a bit of Spanish in the process.
