Out of Africa and in the LBC

Last night Peter and Jesssa got back home to Casablanca after spending their weeklong February break in Kenya. They flew to Nairobi and went on safari in the Masai Mara National Reserve. It sounds like a fantastic trip. We just got off the phone with Peter and he was so excited about their adventure. Thanks to Jessa for sending these pictures.
They went with three other teacher friends from their school. One of those friends had a friend who lives in Nairobi. So on either end of their trip they stayed at her apartment and she helped them navigate their time in Nairobi. In other words, they were definitely well taken care of.
Their guide for the safari picked them up in Nairobi and drove them out to the preserve, which is seven hours away. The five of them had their own private safari. Peter said of all the trips he's been on, this might have been his favorite one ever.
They spent two nights on safari. The preserve has lodging, which Peter said was fantastic. While technically a tent, it had a full bathroom, two rooms, and a four-poster bed. (Translated: glamping!) He said the food cooked at the camp was delicious and the people were very nice (and English-speaking). They saw an abundance of wildlife and for Peter's first safari (and Jessa's second) it sounds like it was a wildly successful trip.
After spending three days at the Masai Mara, they went to a giraffe sanctuary near Nairobi. Jessa is feeding the giraffe in the same way that I think I would: cautiously.
Not pictured here is the video Peter posted to Instagram of a giraffe eating a treat that he (Peter) was holding in his mouth. Ick, ick, super ick!
Meanwhile back in Long Beach, last night Brad and I had a fun night out with our niece Sarah and her boyfriend Spencer. We went out for Peruvian food near our neighborhood and it was absolutely delicious. But the best part was the wonderful company and the chance to spend the evening together.
