Flashback Friday
This is the kitchen in our Yokohama house in January of 2003—not very tidy because the picture was taken while we were moving in. (In case you're wondering, even at the time we thought the colors were horrible. But the kitchen was quite functional, by Japanese standards it was enormous, and we were thrilled to find a rental that fit our entire family.) At the moment Brad and I are trying to come up with a plan to make some improvements to our kitchen here in Tucson, and looking at this picture gives me some perspective. Even though our kitchen in Tucson has a lot of things that we want to fix/change, my list of what to fix/change in this Yokohama kitchen would have been a lot longer than our list for our Tucson kitchen. Seventeen years ago in Yokohama we didn't change a thing (as I said, it was a rental house), we lived there for two and a half years, and the kitchen served us well. We wouldn't have wanted to live with a bright yellowy-gold kitchen forever, but there are far worse problems to have.
