Last Week's Travels

Last week I was back at my mom's house, hanging out with these two lovelies. Kelle made me her apprentice and I assisted in a very (very) small way with Mom's care. This is the set up for g-tube medication time.
Two days after I arrived we drove down to San Diego to visit my aunt and uncle. We had a nice visit and as always Kelly and Joyce were glad to see Mom, and vice versa. I'm really REALLY glad we went when we did, because the next morning Mom fell at home and she wound up in the hospital for a week. She only went home this past Monday, and now in addition to having a tracheostomy and a g-tube, she has oxygen 24/7.
We had hopes that Mom would be discharged quickly, so on the first morning we took advantage of a break in the action and before going to the hospital we met Kelle's daughter, Erin, in San Clemente. I went for a run while Kelle and Erin had some mom and daughter time on a walk. As you can see the weather was beautiful and we had a nice morning before our day/evening at the hospital.
Before Mom's week in the hospital was up, Kelle and I had spent more time together just the two of us than I think we've spent together since we last lived under the same roof. Pretty much all of that time was either at the hospital or at home getting ready for Mom's return from the hospital. Like I told Kelle, I guess you could say it was like we went on a vacation together, only it was a vacation to the hospital.
After caring for Mom round-the-clock since before Christmas, Mom's unplanned week in the hospital was a chance for Kelle to catch up on some much needed sleep.
At the hospital, Mom was found to have a lot of fluid in/around her lungs. After a day or two she could sit in a chair. Now that she's home, she's lost a lot of strength but we're hoping that with time she'll be able to get out of bed and into a chair again.
No matter if Mom is in the hospital or at home, Simba is there for her. Here he is behind a gate while some equipment was being delivered for Mom last week. Shortly after I took this picture Simba pushed the gate down and came in to meet the delivery guy.
Meanwhile ..... there were more things going on with the Harrisons last week. Over the weekend Peter and Jessa participated in democracy by spending a couple of days canvassing for Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire. New Hampshire isn't exactly next door to Philadelphia, so it was a long drive to get there but when it was all over their candidate prevailed so they're happy.
They met some friends and fellow Bernie supporters and knocked on a few hundred doors. Over the weekend the campaign knocked on about 20% of all New Hampshire's doors!
And as all Harrisons know, most good weekend days start with a large and thorough breakfast, preferably at a cozy diner. Peter and Jessa got sustenance at just such a diner before heading out into the cold and icy New Hampshire streets.
While Peter and Jessa were participating in the democratic process, John and Troy's dog Sirius was working on his diplomacy skills. Specifically, trying to convince my sister's dog Watson that he'd surely prefer the other couch across the room. Watson eventually complied, but I'm pretty sure Sirius stole his favorite couch. Sirius spent the weekend with Watson and his family in Denver while John and Troy attended a wedding in St. Louis.
Troy's maid of honor, Emily (above), got married on Saturday and Troy was a bridesmaid. From everything I've seen and heard it was a beautiful wedding and a smashing success.
Weddings are such happy occasions and at this time in their lives, John and Troy are getting to go to a lot of them. The fact that this one was in St. Louis was an added bonus.
Meanwhile back in Tucson, Brad tested out a white paint sample for our interior paint project. It looks good next to our proposed new kitchen cabinets. Stay tuned, as this is a developing story.
And finally, Allie assisted with overseeing the installation of our new dishwasher. After two months with no dishwasher we are happy to be back in the automatic dishwashing game.
