Longest Day of the Year

It's ironic that the longest day of the year -- we get 25 hours today -- is such a noticeable step on our way to the shortest day of the year. Oh well, I'll take what I can get. An extra hour today is always nice. The dogs and I usually have a very quiet (i.e., hardly any people or cars) walk on this morning, but this year there were more people out than usual. Maybe it had something to do with the mild weather. It's still lovely fall around here. It was 47 degrees when we left home on our walk, and now mid-day it's in the 50's and very nice, even though there's not much sun. We walked to Atwater Park/Beach and saw there are still some day lillies hanging in there, and the roses in the gardens there are still blooming (and they still smell good). The roses in our yard are also still blooming. So ... although more than half the trees have lost their leaves and we're well on our way to winter, it's been a nice transition this fall.

  1. I did not get my extra hour of sleep. On Sunday, I had to travel to Kansas City which is one hour later than Denver so even though we fell back, I fell forward! I wouldn't know what to do with an extra hours sleep anyway.
