February 26-27, 2005. We drove to
Fujigoko (Five Lakes region near Mount Fuji) and spent the night at a
ryokan. There was a pretty major snowstorm on the trip there and driving was not easy ...... traffic was a crawl up to the lakes area. We were happy to arrive and to spend the evening enjoying
kaiseki food (which even John ate .......... I have a picture to prove it in case you doubt me, John) ....... and bathing as often as possible in the
onsen. The next day we took in the amazing sight of being so close to Mount Fuji. Although the mountain was totally hidden in the storm the day we drove in, you can see that by the next day when the storm had passed and it was sunny, the mountain was in full view. (That's Brad and the kids at the bottom of the Mount Fuji picture; if you click on the photo you get a closer view.) Although we could oftentimes see Mount Fuji from where we lived in Yokohama, to be this close was a totally different experience.
What a great memory and wonderful picture. Mt. Fuji looks so majestic. Thanks for sharing!
