Lakeland College or Bust!

This photo is not taken out of context. This is how practically everywhere I was this morning looked.
This is Lakeland College from afar. If you want a place where you can get away from it all, I think this is it.
My favorite volleyball player.

Mary had a volleyball tournament today at Lakeland College in Plymouth. Plymouth is about an hour north of here. However, Lakeland isn't exactly in Plymouth. I think that address is a marketing ploy. It's a full 15 minutes from Plymouth (population 8,000), and much closer to Howards Grove or Ada which, as you might glean from their names, are rather tiny places. But as best as I can tell, Lakeland is nowhere. It sits out in the middle of a big flat expanse, surrounded by farmland and country roads. So maybe it's more accurate to say it's in the middle of nowhere. We found it without a problem, although Google took me on what I later figured out was a bit of a roundabout way. This caused me a problem after I dropped off Mary and I decided to go find a place to get some breakfast (as I had some time before her first game). I drove around the area for, and I'm not kidding, 45 minutes before I realized that all I was going to find was a gas station. I kept thinking, "where do the kids who go to Lakeland College go?" I knew it was farm country, but still, I figured there must be something. I finally decided to drive to Plymouth, which was 15 minutes away, but at least I wasn't driving in circles anymore. In Plymouth, for breakfast food there was a McDonald's. And that was all. But after driving for so long, I was never so happy to see McDonald's as I was this morning. And through all that back roads driving, I did find a shorter way home. (And I did make it back in time for the start of Mary's first match.) Well, enough of my whining. It was a great day of volleyball. The girls, as always, played so well and with such poise. They came in 2nd in their pool, which qualified them for the gold bracket, but they lost their first match in that. So all tallied they played four matches and took three of those matches to three games. Very competitive volleyball and a very good day.
