Garden Bounties
Tonight we had our most diverse harvest of the year, so I thought it was a good time to celebrate the first half of the gardening season. Our spring crops are winding down and the summer ones are hitting their stride, so we have a window of time with a lot of variety. Tonight we harvested the last of the lettuce and the first of the tomatoes, our one-and-only peach harvest (five peaches!), still more strawberries, a few beans, our first cucumber and pepper, two kinds of summer squash, and some parsley. We wanted to wait on the peaches until Peter and Mary get home, but after a ripe one fell off the tree earlier today we figured we had better not delay. (And it was delicious!) So here are a few photos of my favorite baskets of harvest over the last few weeks, and you can see how the season has progressed. With our tomatoes about to explode in color, the peppers doing well, the squash moving into rapid-fire mode, and the herbs taking over the place, we're excited for the second half of the summer!
