2011 Movie Marathon

We embarked on the annual Harrison Movie Marathon during the second half of our Christmas trip, in Washington, D.C. Since Peter was working during the day, we had only three nights in which to do the marathon and we managed to see a total of 3.8 movies. (More on the .8 later.) Here's a rundown of what we saw:
At the E Street Cinema in downtown Washington we saw our first and last movies. On the first night we saw the spy movie Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Overall most of us liked it quite a bit, with Brad liking it the least. John, on the other hand, is ready to start reading John le CarrĂ©, so I think it's fair to say he was the most enthusiastic. Afterwards we went out for Chinese food and the usual post-movie discussion, which is especially useful after a spy movie. On our last night we saw another movie at this same cinema, but by then the battery in the camera was exhausted, so I don't have a photo from the night when we saw A Dangerous Method.  This is the movie about Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud. We thought it was fairly solid; no one was in love with it, but also no one hated it.

And here we are at the .8 movie. It's .8 because the rest of us saw it while Peter was at work. The movie we saw was The Descendants and we all liked it quite a bit. Peter is planning to see it soon so he can catch up on the marathon.

And the final movie we saw was The Muppets. It was a challenge to find an evening showing (most of the Muppets' showings are matinees and we needed one in the evening since Peter worked during the day) but we did and it was so worth it. Everyone absolutely loved this movie and it was, I believe I am correct in saying, hands down the favorite of the week. This was, simply put, the Muppets done well. (And it is preceded by a short Toy Story film that is adorable.) If you want an excuse to feel happy for 90 minutes, you should go see it.

  1. We just saw Mission Impossible last night and it was really good. Very action packed!

I want to see the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and a few others but I just can't believe how much it costs to see a movie!!
