Surfing Morning

I bet I caught your attention with my title. So I'll come clean and start by saying that no, neither Brad nor I surfed. Like I mentioned the other day, we're here because Brad is involved with a shoot. I thought it was top secret so I didn't say more. But now I find out it's not top secret afterall and infact I have been encouraged to spread the news!! So I can say that this is a shoot for a TV show that Schick Hydro is sponsoring. It's called Clean Break and will debut on Fuel (Fox's adventure sports channel) on June 13. Two years ago, Hydro sponsored a series of webisodes, also called Clean Break, and the idea was so successful that it's been expanded to this TV show. The idea for this one is that three guys get a "clean break" from their lives to come to Hawaii for two weeks and have adventures (more than 25 adventures) of a lifetime. There will be six episodes, plus a Clean Break web page on Yahoo. If you want to learn more, you can "like" Hydro Experience on Facebook and there will be teasers about this whole project for the next few months. So . . . . that's my little advertisement. Now, onto the surfing. Yesterday morning I went with Brad to watch the guys go surfing. They were guided by a locally famous surfer. (Who's also a male model, but that's a whole other blog post . . . . . ) The waves were approaching 10 feet and the wind was whipping. It was fun and interesting to watch!

Here are the three guys being filmed while the local surfer (holding the board) briefs them on the surf conditions at Ho'okipa beach. The guys who are the "actors" aren't professional actors at all. One guy is a stay-at-home dad and former stuntman who's trying to figure out if he wants to go back to being a stuntman or keep being a stay-at-home dad. The second guy is a pharmaceutical sales rep who wonders if there's more to life than what he does. And the third guy is the oldest of three brothers trying to forge his own identity when his two brothers are well known quarterbacks. (That's him in the yellow shorts. If you're a Packers fan, you might notice he resembles his brother Aaron.)

The cameras were set up in various locales, in, on, and off the water. Those are camera guys up on the rocks.

This camera crew was on a bluff above the rocks. There was also an underwarer camera, GoPros on the surfboards, and cameramen on jet skis.

The waves were huge.

I can't say for sure if this was one of our guys or just some random surfer. Still, I was happy to get an action shot with my little dorky camera.

More of the surf. I wouldn't have wanted to be out there, but it sure was pretty to look at.

Warning flags to surfers. Fortunately, the rescue board wasn't needed and everyone got out of the water safely. After a morning of this, the guys spent the afternoon and evening riding mountain bikes down a volcano. Due to logistics, Brad and I couldn't go up there, but we heard the stories afterwards. We used the time to go for a drive around the island, which I will fill you in on the next time I have a chance. Until then, Aloha!

  1. That was a really good action shot! Those waves are huge! I know when we go rafting and I shoot a rapid it never looks as big as it was and if those waves looked that big in the pictures I can imagine how big they were in person.

    Another fabulous update!
