Last fall Brad and I decided to make an herb garden close to the house.. There is a small bed at the foot of the stairs from our deck, and it was overgrown with groundcover and evergreens. Last fall I cleared out the groundcover. Yesterday Brad cleared out the evergreens.
This is how the bed looked once it was cleared and ready to become an herb garden. The original plan was to plant it as is. But then late yesterday afternoon Brad and I had a vision (never a good thing; visions usually = time + money): of an interior raised bed, bordered in stone. As visions go, this one was a bargain (in both categories).
So this morning after church we went to the stone supply store and bought the stone. We created and filled the bed. And after a little while, the bed seemed to magically appear. (Brad, who wheeled in the dirt, will disagree with this characterization.)
And then we filled it with herbs. (Some are seeds so they'll appear later.) We found two flagstones in a different bed, just sitting there without any purpose, and added them as stepping stones. We also plan to add some plants in the front section. Now we have an herb garden just a short distance from the kitchen. Hooray! It was a good Mother's Day!
Sue - That looks great and I'm sure you two are both sore today from all your hard work. Now you have to keep the bunnies away from it as well!
