(Almost) Coast to Coast Kids

This week found the Harrison kids doing fun things in interesting places. Peter and Jessa finished their national parks trip at the Grand Canyon. Peter said they drove almost 1900 miles in total. We can't wait to hear more about their trip when we see them later this week.
Meanwhile, on Friday night John and Troy drove up to Madison for a beer festival. Yesterday morning they went over to the nearby Whole Foods to see if Mrs. Singer was working . . . . . and she was! After snapping this picture they made plans to have brunch at her house this morning. We're excited to hear more about their visit with her when they return later today.
The beer festival was called the Great Taste of the Midwest. From what I'm told, it's one of the biggest and best beer festivals in the country (alongside Denver and Boston). I read that it had something like 250 breweries represented and 1000 beers for tasting. The festival was held in a park on the lake in downtown Madison, a short walk from John and Troy's hotel. All I can say is it must have been a fantastic place to spend a Saturday.
While John and Troy were away, Sirius stayed with us. Allie did better with him than ever. She even played with him this morning! (If you aren't shocked, you should be.) Sirius enjoyed a piece of peach pie yesterday. I was gone and Brad snuck out to run a quick errand. When he got back the piece of pie, which had been in a clam shell container on our kitchen island, was missing and its (now perfectly clean) container was on the family room rug.
Meanwhile on the East Coast . . . . . Mary stayed in DC this weekend. But she had a special visitor: her friend Esteban from Stanford. Yesterday evening they visited the National Mall.
Seeing the monuments at night is such a treat.
As for the Harrison parents, it's been a pretty humdrum weekend. We've mostly been getting ready for our trip and working around the house. Today Brad tore apart the deck walkway, as it was rotting. He's going to fix it all up and is hoping to finish it tomorrow. And then shortly after that we'll be in my freshly cleaned van (!) on our way to DC. We're excited to see a new area of the country (most of the drive from Kentucky to DC will be in a part of the country we've never been to before) and of course excited to see our two DC kids!
