Seeing Peter and Jessa's pictures from their national parks trip got me to thinking about the closest thing we had to such a trip. Turns out it was exactly 25 years ago this week that we passed through Utah and Wyoming, on our move to Ithaca. Today I looked back at our photos from that trip, thinking that we were probably in some of the same places that Peter and Jessa visited this week. Not quite. With a two month-old baby and an almost two year-old toddler, we stayed on task and stayed on our route. We did stop to admire Bridal Veil Falls (where the above photo was taken), as well as a big stone monument to Abraham Lincoln (which is part of a rest stop). But that was as adventurous as we got. And as far as picture-taking was concerned, lest my family think I've always taken loads of photos, from those two highly picturesque stops, the above photo (from August 5, 1990 and not exactly an award winner) is the only one with three members of the family in it, and the only one with John in it. The others are either Peter and Brad, or Peter and me, or just Peter. (Sorry John.) And there weren't any with all four of us. So we've come a long way in 25 years: the boys got a sister, digital photography let me take many more pictures, and I got much better at asking strangers to take pictures of us (and later the selfie took that to a whole new level).
