Thanksgiving

Early in the week of Thanksgiving, Sirius stayed with us for a couple of days while John and Troy had their water heater replaced. This is Allie's favorite perch. As you can see, Sirius makes himself right at home.
Allie does quite well with him now. One of the things she's had to learn to figure out is how not to get hit in the face by his constantly wagging tail. She's figured out the perfect distance to stand behind him to be clear of his tail. You can see the white tip of his tail in front of her face. Our dog is many things, but a dummy she is not.
I don't think he went hunting with Thanksgiving dinner in mind, but Sirius caught a squirrel in our backyard. He had it in his mouth and was swinging it as though it was a toy when the squirrel, while on an upward trajectory during Sirius' swinging, made a leaping run for it while Sirius still had ahold of him. The squirrel got away, but he left the tip of his tail in Sirius' mouth. And if you don't believe me, Exhibit 1 is above.
On Thanksgiving Day it was just the four of us. We made a cheese board and had some yummy snacks before dinner.
Sirius kept an eye on the snacks. We have reliable dogs. Allie can be depended on to guard the people. Sirius can be depended on to guard the food.
But it's exhausting work.
Allie and Troy enjoyed the warmth of the fire.
And Allie kept watch in the hallway.

We took a family selfie after dinner.
And the rest of our family took a family photo in Morocco. Peter and Jessa had a long weekend off work for Thanksgiving, so they took Mary to Chefchaouen, otherwise known as the blue town in northern Morocco. Mary flew home yesterday and she's back in DC today.
After Thanksgiving was all over, Allie caught up on her sleep.
And by today she was ready to camp out on the paint tarp while I continued our painting project.
