Over Memorial Day weekend I did some baking. I made these cookies for an engagement party for our neighbor. (Her ring is a blue topaz.) If you're a connoisseur of royal icing cookies, you know that these are a primitive rendition. (But hey, they were my first try, and it only took one Amazon order and three trips to Michael's to get it right!) The best news is they tasted great.
I also made some focaccia bread, for the same party. My niece Lauren really helped me a lot, thanks to the magic of texting (and one frantic phone call at the end).
It was delicious!
We're heading out of town today, for a weekend in DC followed by a week in Morocco. Allie (shown here at the offices of our local newspaper The Grunion Gazette) will be on duty holding down the fort at home with our neighbor Bill, who is her dogsitter. (But as far as she's concerned, protecting him instead of us is her job for the week.)
