Today's Theme is: 150 Miles

Peter and Jessa were in Gettysburg last weekend to celebrate Jessa's mom's birthday. Gettysburg is about (..... wait for it) 150 miles from Philadelphia. A big draw was getting to spend time with Jessa's niece Amelia.
Babies apparently think beards are interesting. At least Amelia does.
After staying with friends and then living in a temporary apartment since the end of June, this week Peter and Jessa moved into their permanent apartment in Philadelphia! These two, who brought only two suitcases and a cat from Morocco just six weeks ago, are getting themselves situated and furnished. They can already eat at their own table!
Meanwhile this week in Colorado, John and Troy (and Sirius) headed west a distance of about ..... you guessed it ..... 150 miles, and took a mini-vacation to Steamboat Springs. The highlight of their trip was a six-hour hike in the Routt National Forest. While impressive, the fact that these two could hike for six hours and climb 2500 feet doesn't really surprise me.
But the fact that this bacon-loving, nap-taking dog could do it with them both impresses me and surprises me.
Mary and Andy had a getaway this week too. They traveled 150 miles (you knew that was coming, didn't you?) and spent a few days with Andy's family in Ocean City on the eastern shore of Maryland.
Tikka stayed back in DC with some friends, so she was ready for some cuddle time when they got home.
Tonight is a big night for Tikka. The Packers play the Ravens, and whoever wins is whose dog apparel she'll sport for the season.
Go Pack Go!
Back here in Long Beach we're all about food. I kept the dehydrator going all weekend to dry a bunch of fruit. These figs looked so amazing going into the dehydrator, but I didn't get the results I wanted. They're edible but not nice and gooey like the kind I buy.
Cherries, however, go in looking beautiful and come out ever so tasty.
We have a new awesome interior bike lane that goes from our house into downtown. It's been a game-changer for us. For the past two weekends we've ridden our bikes downtown for two meals each weekend—including ice-cream (above).
I didn't do a very good job of describing the bike lane, so here's a picture I found online. It's just the best. As a cyclist it feels very protected. It's only about three miles to get downtown, but without these bike lanes I would never do it. Riding this way the entire distance is a breeze!

  1. Finally a bike lane that makes sense. Protected from moving cars.
