Brad, Peter, Mary, and I left this morning to take Peter back to college, and for Mary to visit her last group of schools. This means an overnight in Philadelphia, followed by three nights in DC, then back home. (We'll miss John but he'll be home for a visit the following weekend.) On the weekend before we left, I did some garden maintenance by pulling out some spent plants, picking the onions, and cleaning up those beds to make way for some fall plantings. Here are a few photos from the mid/late summer garden, from which we are now enjoying lots of tomatoes, consistent peppers and squash, finally some basil, and still infinite strawberries.
This is what I mean when I say infinite strawberries. We get about this many about every night.
These Napa Grape tomatoes are superstars.
Four different varieties of tomatoes made for some yummy bruschetta the other night.
The fact that we have acorn squash growing on trellises is pretty cool, but these butternut squash are producing much more fruit. Since it's the first time we've ever grown winter squash, it's exciting (plus, I'm easily amused).
We don't have that many cucumbers, but what we have was enough to make this jar of refrigerator pickles the other night.
gosh, your garden is really doing well, kudos to you .. i wish i have a bit of your gardening interests :) and those strawberries ...
