Flashback Friday

Today I'm taking the train from New Haven to Washington, to visit Peter for the weekend. On the East Coast we ride the train fairly often, but for some reason this trip got me thinking about all the places we've gone on train rides over the years. There was the Metra and Amtrak from Wisconsin to Chicago; our first subways on the Metro in Paris (I think Mary still has her collection of tickets) and the Tube in London; and many day rides, some very fast rides, and the always memorable overnight trips in Poland, Japan, Europe, and China. And now the boys regularly ride the subways in Boston and D.C. and they train up and down the East Coast; Mary likewise in the Bay Area. But as far as the kids' very first train ride, I think it was, fittingly, in Wisconsin. In October of 1993, Brad's parents were visiting and we all took a sightseeing ride on the Kettle Moraine Steam Train. It was an old train and a short ride, but in the beautiful fall foliage it was so pretty. Here are Peter and John, clearly enjoying their first - but definitely not their last - ride on a train.
