Weekend With Peter, Part II

Peter and I will always remember this weekend for its weather. It was absolutely bitterly cold beginning on Saturday afternoon, all the way until Monday morning. The wind chills were in the single digits. Peter said he's never felt it so cold in DC, and this is his fifth winter there. I don't have many good photos, as I was always too cold to get out my camera. But above is Peter's apartment building.

We went to Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, which is at Catholic University, which is adjacent to where Peter lives. (You can see the Basilica and hear its bells from his apartment.) The church was beautiful, and we were happy that it was warm inside.

After Mass we were once again "on the street" and freezing, while waiting for a bus. This is Peter, calling the automated system to find out when the next bus was coming.

On the bus we were warm again. I hate to be such a whiner about the cold, but I think I've gotten spoiled by our mild winter. And as Peter said, there is "nice cold" and there is "mean cold." This was a mean cold. But weather aside, it was a fantastic weekend and we had a blast hanging out and enjoying a rare weekend together.

  1. At least it wasn't snowing! I know what you mean, there is a nice cold and a mean cold.
