Garden Update

The garden is coming along. I took these pictures a few days ago and we've already had progress even since then. Here you can see the general layout. We have four beds (two in front and two behind). For the two big beds we protected them from critters with some garden fencing. It will cut down on the foot traffic and lazy intruders. For the smart wily guys, they'll still be able to get in.
That first bed with the white fence (which we recycled from a fence repair project) has a tomato plant, two peppers, some peas (which will grow up the white fence) and these guys - okra! It's our first time to grow okra.
These are the peas. Actually, they're sugar snap peas. It's the same variety we grew in Connecticut. They're very sweet and delicious.
Another first time plant for us are these guys - brussels sprouts. They're in the same bed as the lettuce, along the backside of the garage.
Here's the lettuce and arugula. The egg shells are to discourage the slugs.
These two smaller square beds have pumpkins, cantaloupe, and two varieties of summer squash. (I just planted the seeds.) The idea is that there is plenty of space for the vines to travel in this part of the yard. (And since I took the photo, we've covered up the newspaper with mulch so it looks much nicer!)
In other gardening projects, I finished my brick project. I took up, cleaned up, and relaid all of the bricks on this pathway and on the patio at the end of the pathway.
And Brad finished his deck maintenance project. He took out the rotted boards and replaced them with new boards. Next is to re-stain it all.
This week I potted five flower pots on the deck, so we'll have some nice color. And I planted the herb in pots on the deck. I also planted some flowers in the front yard, and with Brad's recently reseeded front yard, the front looks much improved! So you are up-to-date on the garden!
