Flashback Friday

It's football season so I thought it was a good week for a football Flashback. While I have a lot of football pictures from John's high school days, my photography skills aren't very good so most of the ones of John on the field are of his back or side, and from quite a distance. This isn't a very exciting photo, but at least you can see everyone's faces. Putting up this picture (it was from the Homecoming game John's senior year, against Pewaukee, played at a neutral site on a Saturday afternoon since Shorewood's field was under construction) I got to thinking if what I tell everyone is correct. Namely, that John played football against J.J. Watt (who went to Pewaukee). Peter definitely played basketball against him (very memorable - long story as to why), but I was never certain if John played football against him. Turns out he didn't. Watt was in Peter's year, so in this photo he was already graduated. In the previous two years that John played, his school played a non-conference schedule, and in looking up the schedules for those two years online, I can see that Shorewood and Pewaukee never played against one another in football. So that should clear up that urban legend, which I helped to create. Anyway, John's three years of playing football were so much fun for all of us and it's always nice to think back on those Friday nights (or, in the case of the game above, Saturday afternoons).
