Color

Just when I thought the fall color had peaked - and indeed it had - it surprised me this week with even more vibrancy and contrast in its decline.  As I was driving to Hartford today and looking in awe at the hillsides with so many different colors, I decided that what makes New England fall so spectacular is the scale.  There are so many trees and thanks to the many hillsides we can see them together in such numbers that it really takes your breath away.  As the leaves fall from the trees and cover the ground in a splended mix of yellow and orange, the reds are coming out on the later turning trees.  So even though we have more bare branches there is more contrast and it is simply gorgeous.  My pictures don't do it much justice but I hope you get the idea.
