Giving Thanks

The night before Thanksgiving I made two pumpkin pies and Allie kept a careful watch of them. We picked up Peter at the airport and started our Thanksgiving weekend with the three of us while John is in Kentucky and Mary is in California.
Thanksgiving morning started with a Turkey Trot. Allie went too. She's not a very sociable dog but Brad said she behaved admirably. Yay for Allie G!
While Brad and Allie walked the 5k, Peter was a good son and ran with me. I'm a slow poke but we had fun running together through farmland and backroads of Southbury. It was a brisk 35 degrees at race time but the sun was out and it was otherwise a gorgeous morning.
Back at home it was time to eat. We started with baked brie topped with cranberry chutney. Yum.
Peter was in charge of his specialty, brussels sprouts and bacon. John, you would have been proud at the way he fried up that bacon like a seasoned pro.
Believe it or not, it tasted even better than it looks. And it looks very delicious.
One of my jobs was setting the table. If you can find Allie in this picture, you get a bonus. (Not really.)
Here's Allie, looking for I don't know what. But it must be important by the look in her eyes.
As always, Brad was in charge of the turkey. We had a small turkey this year, and he was tasty.
Add some potatoes, gravy, cranberries, and bread, and you have a simple but splendid dinner for three. Afterwards we went to visit our friends Jim and Flora for dessert. A nice way to end a nice day. Happy Thanksgiving!
