Still Gardening

This weekend we tried to finish up the fall cleanup in the yard. This is the rootball of the last sunflower plant. (The sunflowers were so strong that their roots broke the bed.) I won't repeat the expletives that came out of Brad's mouth as he was removing this guy. The upshot is ..... I don't think we'll be growing any more sunflowers in raised beds.
The lettuce in the raised bed on the deck hasn't gotten too big yet, but I think we'll still enjoy a baby lettuce salad when Peter's home this weekend.
All yard work includes some ball time.
Last week our yard was mowed for the last time this season. The remaining leaves bunched up against the fence so I raked them and added them to the new composter. I felt very safe with Allie keeping watch for me on the other side of the fence.
I think (hope) this is the last one of these sights for this season. But the truth is I enjoy getting out there and doing the fall cleanup. The weather's comfortable, I don't feel rushed, and it's satisfying to clean up the yard. Next up: winter!
