With Peter and the Milwaukee Brewers both in town on the same weekend, we of course took advantage of this coincidence and devoted most of yesterday to baseball. We were a happy crew. (I wish I could say the same for the Brewers, but more on that later.) On a glorious spring day, Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals, is a perfect place to watch a game. But first .....
The game didn't start until 3:15, so we met up at iTap for some lunch and some beer. Around the table from the left it's: me, Troy, Kayla, Peter, Brad, John, Lloyd and Esther (Troy's parents).
Peter and Kayla got to see a bit of Soulard (John and Troy's neighborhood, also the location of iTap) and we walked from there to the stadium. It was about a 15 minute walk to get to the game, and for anyone who would rather hitch a ride, the local bars offer free shuttles to and from the stadium. (From our house we can also take the light rail to the stadium.) The bottom line is stadium parking is wholly avoidable in Saint Louis.
Peter and Kayla got the "out-of-towners bonus" and got to sit with us in the good seats. John and Troy didn't fare so well, sitting on the tippy top row in the seats above Peter's head. On such a sad showing for the Brewers (they got shut out) maybe it's just as well they had to squint to see. On the other hand, maybe they would have liked to have had a better view of the amazing Cardinals at play. Their pitcher pitched a complete game, with 12 strikeouts, going 3 for 3 at the plate, and they won 8-0. We later learned that during the last at-bat, the four of us were shown on TV as disappointed Brewer fans watching the end of this debacle. The Brew Crew was not well represented in the stands, so it must not have been hard for the cameras to spot us in the sea of red.
I think these two are ready to cheer for the local team! (It was jersey giveaway day, and we all got go to home with one of these beauties.)
