Five Years
No pictures today - I just wanted to say that this month Happenings at the Harrisons turned five years old! I wasn't sure whether I should mention this, but it seems like a small milestone so I thought I'd say something. Five years ago when I started this blog I thought it would be just another way to keep in touch with our sons at college and our far flung extended family. I think it achieves its purpose for them (and now for our daughter at college), and for our friends all over the world who read it. What keeps me going is how much I enjoy writing about (and photographing) the adventures (present and past) of our family, and also all the encouragement I get from people who mention to me how much they enjoy reading it - thanks all! Flashback Friday is a fan favorite and my favorite, and I must say I love the excuse to pull out old photos. (And it keeps me honest by making me do at least one post a week - actually it keeps me honest by making me do at least two posts a week, because a week with only Flashback Friday seems kind of like I'm cheating.) For me, this blog has evolved into both a journal and photo album. (At the end of each year I have that year's blog entries bound in a book, so it really is a photo album!) I've always liked to write letters, and when I write the blog posts I feel like I'm writing a letter to so many people I care about. Sometimes it's a challenge to come up with something to post (not having a big garden this year has really taken away a lot of my material), but it also forces me to notice what's going on around us (and occasionally to blog about it). Okay, I'm done now - thanks for reading!
