I've probably used this picture for Flashback Friday before but in my opinion, it can't be here often enough. This is John and his friend Alex and their middle school principal Mrs. Dunmire, hamming it up while on a trip with the middle school cross-country team to Moscow. It seems crazy that a middle school cross-country team from Warsaw would go to a meet in Moscow, but they did. John came back with some very Russian-centric souvenirs, like the hat he's wearing which is overflowing with fake medals. He's the only one of us who got to Russia, and even though it was a quick trip, I think it still made a big impression on him.
