The Disneyland Dream
The happenings at the Harrisons have been pretty low key this week. On Monday, John went to DC to spend the week with Peter, and just before he left I came down with my first stomach virus in more than 10 years. Brad and Mary have been taking good care of me, but wisely avoiding me and my germs as much as possible. Today is the third day since I got sick and I feel human again. One of the worst things about being sick is the boredom, and a bored woman with an iPad can be a dangerous combination. Being bored, I watched a video on my new iPad. Maybe you've heard of it? It's a home movie made by a man in Connecticut over 50 years ago entitled "Disneyland Dream." His family wins a trip to Disneyland and they fly from Connecticut to California for a week. I have been meaning to watch it but was daunted by the video's length (30 minutes). But let me tell you, it was totally worth it as it's sweet, funny, clever, and so well done. This man was a home movie hobbyist, and this one just happens to be his most famous. (It was recently named to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress - one of just a handful of home movies on the list.) It is pure nostalgia, absolutely adorable, and what I loved was the glimpse back in time . . . . I don't want to give it away by saying more but Disneyland is only a small portion of what's covered in the film. If you find yourself with some time, it's worth it. Here's the link for the video. If you are interested in learning more about the man who made the film, click here.
