Flashback Friday

This picture was taken on March 17, 2002, and it seems hard to believe it's been nine years since Brad, Mary, and I tagged along with the boys when they went to Prague.  Both Peter and John were there for a weekend tournament with their school's Knowledge Bowl team, and John had an experience that made the weekend memorable.  After one of the rounds, 6th grade John refused to sign his team's scorecard because he thought the judges ruled incorrectly on a matter of procedure during the round (which cost his team the win).  His peaceful protest caused quite a standoff between his team and the judges, who were unable to complete the round without the signed scorecard.  (The end result was that John won the battle - he never signed the scorecard - but he lost the war.)  We were there to witness it and for a middle school event it was tense, believe me. However, it became an instant classic John moment and one we've never let him forget.  So ever since then, whenever John gets indignant about something he thinks is very unfair, all we need to do is ask him if he's going to sign the scorecard, which is shorthand for, well, now you know for what.
