If you know that tomorrow is John's 21st birthday, then you knew that today's Flashback would be a birthday picture of John. So here it is. John turning age two, on June 4, 1992. This was the only birthday that I know of that we faked. This picture was taken in Newton, Massachusetts on John's real birthday. At the time, we were moving from Ithaca to Racine, and on the way we stopped to visit our friends the Coins in Newton. Because we didn't want to have his birthday "on the road," we tricked him and a week or two earlier, while we were still living in Ithaca, we pretended it was his birthday. He had a big birthday party at childcare and at home, and he was none the wiser. (And even though John is pretty sharp, at the age of two we could easily slide this one past him.) But when his real birthday came around, Brad and I were sad that we had to ignore it. So we never did that again with any of the kids. This year we're going up to Boston to celebrate John's birthday, but we're going on the day after his birthday. However, I'm pretty sure that this time around, our 21 year-old will know the difference between the real birthday and the make-up day. Happy 21st birthday John! We love you more than you'll ever know!!!!!
What a cute picture and funny story.
