New York: Places

The Lower East Side Tenement Museum (on Orchard Street) was one of the more unique museums I've ever visited.  It's literally an old tenement building that was abandoned for over 50 years, then purchased for the purpose of opening a museum in 1988.  Some of the units have been "restored" to what they looked like during a given time period, and a family history from an actual family who lived in a particular unit has been researched.  Led by a guide, we learned the history of the families in relation to what was going on in New York in that era.  I highly recommend it.

We walked by Central Synogogue on our way to dinner one night.  Isn't it gorgeous?  I couldn't resist a photo.  It's located at roughly East 55th Street and 3rd Avenue.

Walking back to our hotel one night, I snapped a few shots of Times Square.  It's glitzy and gaudy, but there's (almost) nowhere else like it.

On my last day there, I discovered that the New York Times headquarters was just a couple of blocks from our hotel.

Just before leaving town we discovered this place and had a bowl of ramen for lunch.  What a treat!
