Saturday was devoted to beer making. Last weekend Brad made a batch of Golden Ale. This week it was ready to be bottled. So first Brad sterilized the bottles in the dishwasher and then he filled about 48 of them with the fermented beer.
John was in charge of capping all the bottles. Now the beer sits for about three weeks until it's ready for drinking.
After finishing bottling one batch, the next natural step was ..... to make another! We made a trip to our nearest home brew store (a mere 45 minutes from here) to get some new supplies.
Before buying, we tried the brew store's own brews. They passed muster, so we were ready to buy supplies!
Brad and John chose a kit for a Harpoon IPA clone brew. (Who knew there were clone beer recipes? This is all new to me.)
We went back home and began the brewing. (I keep saying "we" but to be clear, I was just the photographer.)
Father and son made a good team. After all the ingredients were added and all the proper steps were taken, the beer was taken downstairs in a bucket to the "cellar" to ferment for about a week.
Afterwards, it was time to enjoy a beer we'd all like to aspire to make. This is from a favorite brewery of John and Troy's called Pretty Things.
All that beer brewing built up our appetites. John (with Allie's help) grilled some delicious steaks and asparagus for our dinner and we enjoyed dinner on the deck. By the time we ate it was cool enough that we (well, Brad and I) needed long sleeves - a first this summer.
