Yesterday's post about the deer was too depressing. So here is more uplifting news about some of our plants the deer apparently don't like to eat.
This spring I had a packet of marigold seeds and I threw them in a garden bed. I only got one plant, but it's a doozy with a diameter of two feet. I just love it.
These marigolds started out as three tiny little plants and they've flourished.
I always forget what this plant is called. It's tall and graceful and comes out in late summer when so much is fading away.
These hydrangeas have started to turn into their antique pink color. Soon I'll pick some and dry them in the house for the winter.
I didn't do anything to deserve this rose, which makes me appreciate it all the more.
Another of my favorite bushes in the yard is this lilac which blooms late, lasts long, and dries beautifully.
What's that I hear? Why yes, it's the sound of me patting myself on the back. If you've been to our house, you know that this walkway in our backyard used to be a jungle. I got ruthless yesterday and tore out a lot of the plants in here and added mulch. (That would be the mulch we had delivered over three months ago, but who's counting.) I suppose one benefit of the deer decimating our vegetable garden is they've given me a bit more time in other parts of the yard. It's a small benefit, but I'll take what I can get.
