On Mother's Day this year, Brad and I built this garden. This week I hope to harvest a lot of the leaves/stems and freeze the herbs to use over the winter. So I decided it was time to take some pictures before I do that.
But before I get to the herbs, we interrupt this blog post to bring you an urgent request from Allie. While I was taking these pictures she really wanted to play so I was alternating throwing her toy while taking pictures. I was standing next to the garden when she left the toy at my feet. She knows exactly how to get my attention.
This is some basil in the herb garden, with a bit of dill next to it.We have tarragon that I transplanted from the big garden and it's wonderful to cook with. This fall I will take what herbs are left in the big garden and transplant them up here, so all the herbs will be close to the house. Then next spring I'll use what used to be the herb bed in the big garden for other plants.
Oops, I guess I'm not paying enough attention to Allie. She wants me to throw her toy again.
The thyme was also transplanted from the big garden. It's a happy and easy plant.
This was our first year to grow sage. It's flourished and it'll come in handy for cooking this winter.
I let the cilantro go to flower, but it's so pretty I leave it as is.
