Storm Update, then Lost and Found

Life for us is back to normal after the storm. (No, this isn't our trampoline.) I saw this photo on the Woodbury-Middlebury Patch's Facebook page. It was taken in Milford, Connecticut, which is on the Long Island Sound, about 30 miles south of here. Crazy isn't it? Down near the shore things got really bad, and it's still bad, as I'm sure you've heard. Here in Woodbury it wasn't quite so bad. There were a fair amount of downed trees and many people (at one point 98% of households) lost power for up to four days (all but about 25 households in town now have power back), so the kids were out of school all last week. While none of that is good, it's a heck of a lot better than what others in the region have had to deal with. At our house, miraculously we didn't lose power and our biggest impact was lost contact with the outside world -which means no home phone, no internet, no cable TV, and no cell phone - until yesterday afternoon. Things could have been much worse, so we're thanking our lucky stars.

Time for lost and found. Today I was doing some raking and in a pile of leaves Allie found a lost treasure. See that lime green blob in the shadow of my leg? It's a tennis ball that the lawn mower chewed up. Like a lost sheep she excitedly welcomed it back into the fold. She made me throw it over and over, even though it's much less exciting than a ball that can bounce and travel far.

Finding a long-lost toy is cause for celebration, which if you're a dog includes rolling around on the grass with the dear long-lost object at close range (in this case, at the tip of Allie's nose). The storm may have caused a disruption in Allie's life (much nervousness during the storm and no walks for two days) but today seems to have made up for all that.
